The thermal overload relay is a three-pole relay that uses a bimetallic tripping device. When the motor current flows through the bimetal, it is heated directly or indirectly. Once an overload (overcurrent) occurs, the bimetal will bend due to heat, causing the relay to trip or change the switch position of the contact (/).
